Academic Honesty Guidelines
PAVE sets high expectations for academic honesty. Expectations for students to exercise responsible, ethical behavior in the online environment are extremely important. Work submitted must represent a student’s original ideas or cite all relevant sources if it is not completely original. If authenticity is in question the student may be asked to take an additional exam, defend their work, or respond to oral questions through a virtual meeting, or via phone. If a student has shown academic dishonesty, the following disciplinary actions will be taken if the student purposely or repeatedly engages in academic dishonesty:
First Offense
Verbal Warning, along with a phone call to the student’s parents/caregivers. The first offense could also result in a required meeting between the parents, teacher(s), and the student. The student’s work will receive no credit, but the student will be provided the opportunity to redo the assignment for full credit.
Second Offense
Verbal and Written Warning will be issued. A second offense will be a mandatory meeting between parents, teacher(s), and the student. A written warning will also be sent by the teacher to the student, parent/caregiver, and the PAVE administration. The student’s work will receive no credit and the opportunity to redo the assignment for partial credit will be left up to the discretion of the teacher(s).
Third and Subsequent Offenses
If a third and/or subsequent offenses occur the student will automatically be referred to the PAVE administration. Third and subsequent offenses are considered habitual misconduct and are subject to disciplinary actions outlined in the Code of Conduct Rubric. Third and subsequent offenses may lead to suspensions and possible termination of a student’s enrollment in PAVE.
